I have just received an e-mail from Toss informing me that Rex is not in the best of health. I am most sorry to hear that.
I recall flying in awe with Rex during the Union Airways days. Because of my age I could not enter the war until 1943 and I envied those who played such a bit part.
Please pass on my kindest regards to Rex, he was always a gentleman and a joy to fly with.
Kindest regards to both of you and all your family

Betty, Kay & I were both saddened on hearing the news that Rex had reached the end of the trail. Please accept our sincerest sympathy.
ReplyDeletePrior to joining SPANZ I had not had a great deal to do with him but like every employee I soon got to know him well as we faced a never ending series of blockages place in our path by the Opposition. His drive and persistence were demonstrated time and time again during our 5 years of operation.
I had the privilege of flying with Rex on many occasions and he never stopped pushing the Company Line whether is was to Civil Aviation Bureaucrats or the every day Customer, Rex was always slipping back into the cabin to do a “Little bit” of PR.
On 10th December this year will be the 50th anniversary of Rex and Bob’s first SPANZ flight between Auckland and Alexandra. To celebrate this event a Lunch has been organised at Browns Bay on Friday 10th December 2012. (Contact keith@christal.co.nz).
We will take that opportunity to say farewell to an inspiring leader and a nice Guy as well.
Rex has passed on but will live on in the memories of all those whose lives were touched by his activities and personality.
